Michel Foucault
The person in the area of social sciences that I admire: Michel Foucault.
Michel Foucault was born in 1926 and he died in 1984.
He was a French philosopher, psychologist, historian of ideas, social theorist, and literary critic.
Foucault is known mainly for his studies of social institutions, especially psychiatry, medicine, human sciences, the prison system.
Foucault's theories established the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions. He also developed concepts such as biopower and biopolitics and among his most prominent books is ''Discipline and Punish''.
I chose to talk about Foucault because I believe that his ideas presented are very interesting within the area of social sciences; The concepts of biopolitics and biopower that are introduced help to understand and act as the power is exerted by governments in our lives.
For all this, I believe that Foucault was a great contribution to the development of different theories, helped to make visible different groups, and above all, was critical of the society in which we live.
